Tri-Shutter Patterned Pines

For today's Limited Supply Challenge on SCS, the challenge was to use a Christmas tree on a card. I've wanted to try one of these Tri-Shutter cards, so I decided this was a good time to make one. I used Patterned Pines, Holiday Best and Medallion
sets, and Ruby Red, Garden Green and Whisper White cs & ink. The snowflakes are stamped with Platinum Shimmer Paint, and all edges are sponged with the paint as well. TFL!

Trick or Treat Pull-Push-Twist&Smoosh Box

This adorable little box is for today's 3D Demo Challenge on SCS. It's made from a 12x6 sheet of Cast A Spell dsp, and the Trick or Treat image is from Holiday Best. Directions for this box are available for Stampin' Up demos on the website, but I resized it to fit a King Size Snicker's bar. TFL!

Happy Birthday Jon!

This is for my son Jon's 14th birthday today. Extreme Elements & Extreme Guitar sets along with Contempo Alphabet. Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Rich Razzleberry and Real Red classic ink, plus Black Stazon, stamped on Glossy White. Bermuda Bay card base. Guitarist is highlighted with Platinum Shimmer Paint and Real Red classic ink - looks like he's under stage lighting! Jon took one look at the card & said "Cool card - now do you need it back so you can take a picture?" Nah, I've already taken a picture!

Twick or Tweet

Just a few more cards I made using the new Twick or Tweet set in the Holiday Mini Catalog. Colors are Elegant Eggplant, Certainly Celery and Pumpkin Pie and Basic Black on all 3.

Noel Pizzaz

I made this card for today's Ways to Use It challenge on SCS. The challenge was to jazz up the sentiment on your card.
I used Punch Pals and Contempo Alphabet sets & replaced the "O" in "Noel" with a snowflake to jazz it up. The colors are a bit non-traditional, Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay instead of the traditional red & green for Christmas. The snowflakes & poinsettias are highlighted with Dazzling Diamonds, and the card is accented with White Grosgrain and Pretty in Pink Satin ribbons. You can view the original challenge here:

Playin' with my new stamps

I got some new stamps & accessories this week - Medallion BG and 1 1/4" striped grograin from the big catalog and Twick or Tweet and Platinum Shimmer Paint from the Holiday mini catalog. All 3 cards also use the Baroque Border wheel from the big catalog, and all 3 main images are stamped on watercolor paper that was first colored with an AquaPainter to create an "ombre" effect.

I wanted to challenge myself to create very different cards using the same stamps & layout...this is the result:

I used Soft Suede, Read Red and Very Vanilla cs for this card. I used basically the same technique on the Medallion stamp as before, inking it first with Chocolate Chip ink before highlighting with the shimmer paint. The "Peace Love Joy" stamp is from the All Holidays set, and the pine cone image is from the Autumn Days set.

For this card I used the same layout & techniques as the Christmas card, I just changed the colors to Elegant Eggplant, Certainly Celery and Basic Black, and changed the image to "Ghostly Greetings" from the Twick or Tweet stamp set.
For this card I used Dusty Durango, Certainly Celery and Basic Black cs. I inked the Medallion stamp w/Basic Black ink then dabbed the shimmer paint on to highlight before stamping. I used Blender Pens and Stampin' Pastels to color the pumpkins, and wrapped a punched scalloped circle with silver cord to create the embellishment.

Masked Frame

This is for today's Technique Lover's
challenge on SCS... Masked Frame.
I just love these new stamps from Stampin' Up!...Extreme Guitar and Extreme Elements! Very cool, and such a change from the flowery & cutesy stuff! For this card I used Soft Suede, Always Artichoke, Real Red and Very Vanilla cs; Mellow Moss, Always Artichoke, Real Red and Basic Black classic ink; Real Red marker; Notebook & Corner Rounder punches; sponged the edges; and used a Top Note die cut to mask & create the frame. Original challenge and directions to make the masked frame can be found on Splitcoaststampers.com here:

Late Night Inspiration

Ok, so the title comes from the fact that the idea for this card just "popped" into my head last night as I was laying in bed...I couldn't sleep until I got up & pulled out all the supplies I'd need to make it this morning! Here's the details: Carstock & ink colors are Sage Shadow, Soft Suede, Blush Blossom, and Very Vanilla. I used Extreme Elements, Snow Swirled and All Holidays Stamp sets...Top Note die for Big Shot and Eyelet Border Punch. Snowflakes were stamped w/Versamark, then embossed with white ep, ribbon is white grograin colored with Sage Shadow ink, and all edges are sponged with corresponding ink color. I think that's it...TFL!

Pleated Flower

This card is for today's Ways To Use It challenge on SCS...the challenge today was to use pleats on a card. I decided to try making a pleated 3-d flower...it took a few tries to get it right! The flower is a 1 1/4" x 12" strip of dp, then punched with the scallop edge punch, scored between each "hump" of the scallops, accordion folded, ends attached w/sticky strip, then "squashed" into flower shape...easy as that! The leaves are small oval punched, then run through the crimper. Stamps used are Pocket Silhouettes, and colors are Old Olive, Rose Red, Regal Rose. TFL!

Boxed In!

For today's Ways to Use It challenge on SCS... WT225 Out of the Box. The challenge was to use corrugated cardboard somewhere on your card. For this card I used A Beautiful Thing and Fresh Cuts stamp sets and the new "In Colors" Bermuda Bay and Soft Suede ink and cardstock, along with Very Vanilla cardstock and Creamy Caramel ink. The swirls were cut out using the Swirls Scribbles Sizzlet die and Big Shot machine. I used the eyelet border punch to create the lace trim at the bottom, and the photo corner punch to make the photo corner on the top left of the card. The edges of the various layers are distressed using the distressing tool in the cutter kit, and sponged with coordinating ink. TFL!

Faux Buttons

For today's Ways to Use It challenge on SCS, we were to use buttons on a card. I decided to make faux buttons using my circle punches. To create the "buttons", I punched a circle using the 1 1/4" circle punch for the base. The outer ring was created by punching a 1" circle, then centering the hole inside the 1 1/4" circle punch & punching again to make a ring. I colored the outer rings with markers in a slightly darker shade, then adhered to the base with two-way glue. The "buttonholes" were created with the circle BG image from Big Bold Birthday. The scalloped buttons were created the same way using the scallop circle punch and the 1 3/8" circle punch. The stripes were made with Classic Stripes BG stamp colored with markers, and the sentiment is from Smarty Pants. Colors are Kiwi Kiss, Baja Breeze, Tangerine Tango, and Pink Pirhouette. TFL!

Do The Wave!

This card is for today's Limited Supplies Challenge on SCS. The challenge today was to use one or two stamps to create a border on a card. I use the bubbles image from Life's a Breeze to create the bubble border across the bottom of the card. The main image, clouds and sentiment are from Boatloads of Love. I used the Slit punch and Corner Rounder punch from SU to create the "wave" effect on the card. Colors used are Bashful Blue, Brilliant Blue, and Ruby Red. The waves and clouds are popped up on dimensionals, and I used silver brads and hemp cord as accents. TFL!

A Beautiful Sketch

This is for today's sketch challenge on SCS. I used A Beautiful Thing stamp set from SU, cs colors are Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Ruby Red and Very Vanilla. Inks used were Whisper White craft, Baja Breeze, Cameo Coral, and Pacific Point classic. The flower was made using the scallop circle punch from SU: I punched two circles from Ruby Red and one from Very Vanilla, cut from the outside edges toward the center to create "petals", then spritzed with water before layering and scrunching to form the flower. The flower center is a blue Square Ice brad. The edges of the Very Vanilla cs are punched using the Eyelet border punch from SU. TFL!

Roger's Birthday Card

This is for the Ways to Use It Challenge WT213 - Using Labels on SCS. The diamond pattern background is an Avery 3x5 label, run through the Big Shot with the Harlequin texture plate. I inked the plate with Pacific Point before running the label through, then I sponged Creamy Caramel onto the raised portion of the label afterwards. The sailboat image is stamped with Versamark on Night of Navy paper, then colored with Pearl-Ex, then I used the distressing tool on the edges of the cs. The sailboat is from Winds of Grace (retired SU). The cord is hemp, the brads are from the Vintage Brads collection, and the card base is Creamy Caramel cs.

Ahoy, There Be Treasure!

This is a birthday card for one of the little guys that I babysit. He's having a pirate themed party, so I thought Ahoy Matey (retired Stampin' Up!) would be appropriate!

Watch out...the Easter Monkey is coming!!!

A couple of Easter Cards I made this week...
The first one uses Sock Monkey & Sock Monkey Accessories. Almost Amethyst is the card base, the dp is from the Hostess Prints Pack from the last catty, main image is stamped with black Stazon on Whisper White, matted w/ Lovely Lilac. I cut out the basket of eggs & popped it up w/ dimensionals.
The second card uses Loads of Love & Loads of Love Accessories. The card base is Certainly Celery (Thanks for the color suggestion Jonathan!) . The main image is stamped w/black Stazon on Whisper White, matted w/ Barely Banana. The background panel is Tempting Turquoise, run through the Big Shot with the Harlequin texture plate, then sponged with White Craft ink to make the texture "pop". It's also matted on Barely Banana.
I colored both cards with Prismacolor pencils & Gamsol to blend colors. TFL!!!

Easter Eggs

I painted these wooden eggs using acrylics, then decorated them with various rub-ons. I finished them with a gloss varnish to make them shiny :)

Katie's Play Date

I invited some friends (and my Mom) over to play with my stamps last night, and here are the cards I came up with. I love how the creativity flows (and the wine!) when a group gets together!
My mom & I made this one together. We used Comfort Food stamp set. The dotted BG was made by inking the dotted texture plate for the Big Shot with Real Red ink, then run a piece of white cs through. The edges are done with the new Eyelet Border punch from SU, and the card base is Chocolate Chip.
For this one I used Polka Dot Punches from the SAB catty, stamped in Handsome Hunter on Very Vanilla cs. It's layered on Creamy Caramel and Handsome Hunter cs. The Very Vanilla BG was run through the Big Shot with the swirly texture plate. The card base is Certainly Celery, and the size of this card is 4 1/4" square.

For this one I used Botanical Blooms from SAB catty, with watercolor crayons on watercolor paper, then stamped outline in Basic Black. The card base is Old Olive.

This is another card using Comfort Food stamp set. The striped piece is Classic Stripes BG stamp. Colors for this one are Riding Hood Red, Basic Black, Creamy Caramel, and Very Vanilla.

A Monkey for Greg

This card is for my nephew, Greg. He'll be 4 in a couple of weeks, and Aunt Katie always teases him & tells him he's a monkey! I used Sock Monkey (obviously!), stamped with black Stazon & colored with Prismacolor pencils. The background is Taken With Teal, run through the Big Shot with Harlequin texture plate & inked w/white craft. Buttons are from Button Bouquet. TFL!

Today's limited supplies challenge on SCS is to make a card in 30 minutes or less! I made this card in 25 minutes! Colors used are Pink Pirouhette, Old Olive, and Whisper White. Image and sentiment are from Echoes of Kindness, and stamped in black Stazon, and the flower image is colored with Prismacolor pencils. The main image panel is distressed on the edges, and "splattered" with Close to Cocoa ink. TFL!

Sketch Challenge 218

I made this card for Sketch Challenge 218 on SCS. You can find the original challenge HERE.
I used Wonderful Watercolors stamp set, with Rich Regals watercolor crayons, and black Stazon ink for the main image panel and the two small strips. The background layer is stamped with Classic Stripes and Bella Toile, and the next-to-bottom layer is a scrap from a retired 6x6 prints pack. Colors used are Sahara Sand, Night of Navy, Always Artichoke, and Whisper White. The card is finished off with white grosgrain ribbon, vintage brads, and all edges sponged with Sahara Sand. TFL!

Birthday Sundae with a Cherry on Top!

I made this card for today's color challenge on SCS. The challenge today is to use Pink Passion, Chocolate Chip, and Kiwi Kiss on a card. I used Goody-Goody Gumdrops stamp set, with Classic Stripes BG stamp on the background. Image is colored with Stampin' Pastels using a blender pen, edge of main panel is sponged with Chocolate Chip, and "speckled" using a pool of Chocolate Chip reinker & toothbrush. I used the Scribbles Swirls Sizzlets die and Big Shot machine to make the Pink Passion swirls on the corners, and the cherry is highlighted with Crystal Effects.

Transparency Frame

Ok, so I had this idea the other day to make a frame out of a transparency, and this is how it turned out. The frame is 3x3, cut from a transparency sheet, then the center is punched out using the scallop square punch. I distressed the frame with timber brown Stazon ink, then stamped "love" with black Stazon. Chipboard photo corners and brads separate the from from the Very Vanilla background. Stamps used on this one are Brocade Basics, Canvas BG, Organic Grace, and Everyday Flexible Favorites (all retired, but still favorites of mine!). Colors are Bordering Blue, Night of Navy, and Very Vanilla cs, Night of Navy classic ink, Creamy Caramel craft ink, brown & black Stazon. The flower is colored with Stampin' Pastels. TFL!

Cracked Stone?

I've seen so many beautiful cards on SCS that feature the Polished Stone technique, and I wanted to try it for myself. The technique calls for several colors of classic reinkers, along with a metallic reinker, but all I have is classic reinkers. So, I thought I'd improvise and add Pearl-Ex powder to my paper along with the ink. So after inking, spritzing, smushing & letting my paper dry, I stamped the image from Upsy Daisy in black Stazon on top of my marbled paper. Then I ran it through the Big Shot with the Top Note die. The only problem was that the Pearl-Ex flakes off w/o something to bind it to the paper, so I then decided to cover the whole image with Versamark & clear embossing powder. It was then that I thought I'd try using UTEE (in 3 layers!) and do the Cracked Glass effect on the image. After removing from the freezer & cracking, I inked a sponge w/basic black ink and rubbed it into the cracks, then wiped the image clean w/a baby wipe. The flower border on the left side is from Fresh Cuts, and the sentiment is from Best Yet (retired hostess set). Cardstock colors used are Basic Black, Summer Sun, and Tangerine Tango.

S-Fold Card

I made this card for today's Ways T0 Use It challenge on SCS. The challenge today is called Embellishment Pile-up, and the idea is to layer several embellishments on top of each other to create one focal point, instead of spreading them out across the card. For my embellishments, I used olive green grosgrain ribbon (from Michaels), with cs flowers, and finally a Blue Square Ice brad holding it all together. I punched the flowers with my 5-Petal Flower punch out of Certainly Celery and Not Quite Navy cs, and stamped another flower in Certainly Celery on white cs then cut it out. I then spritzed all 3 with water, then formed them into a 3-d shape & let dry. For the card itself, the base is Not Quite Navy cut to 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. The "S" shaped piece is Very Vanilla cut to 4 x 11, scored at 5 1/4 and 8 1/8, then folded as you see. It is stamped with Baroque Border wheel in Certainly Celery, and the flower from Fresh Cuts in Not Quite Navy, and the edges are sponged with Certainly Celery. The sentiment is from All Holidays, and is stamped with Not Quite Navy, then layered on Certainly Celery and Not Quite Navy, and attached ONLY to the left side of the card. TFL!!!

Big Shot Card

This card was for the second color challenge Tuesday on SCS. The colors we were to use for this challenge were Cameo Coral, Old Olive, and Creamy Caramel. I used Very Vanilla as a neutral base for the card. The sentiment is from Full of Life, and I used the Brocade Swirl wheel on the left edge. The bird and flowers were cut out used the Birds & Blooms Sizzlet die set and Big Shot machine.

Framed Poppin' Pastels

This card is a combination of two
challenges this week on SCS. Monday's challenge was to create a card with a recessed window, and Tuesday's challenge was a color challenge using Bold Brights. I used Upsy Daisy and Flight of the Butterfly Stamp sets, and the Poppin' Pastels technique. To create this look, you stamp your images with Versamark, then use a sponge dauber to tap chalk from your Stampin' Pastels onto the card. The pastels will only stick to the Versamark, and not the dry cardstock, so the colors "Pop"! The directions for creating the recessed window can be found here:

Simply Gumdrops

This card is for today's Limited Supplies Challenge on SCS. The challenge was to make a Clean And Simple card - not too many layers, no special techniques. The card base is Tangerine Tango, the stripes & punched circles are Kiwi Kiss. The gumdrops are colored Tangering Tango, Kiwi Kiss, Real Red and Summer Sun, and highlighted with a little Dazzling Diamonds (gumdrops have to have a sugar coating, right?).
